Three Blue Ducks, Bronte

Eastern Suburbs foodies aren’t short of great pickings when it comes to cafes. Yet when it’s a lazy Sunday afternoon and you need a cafe stat and one instantly pops into your mind, you know it’s got to be a goodie.

Three Blue Ducks in Bronte isn’t anything new and for the locals it’s an old favourite. This cafe is one that will instantly pop into your head not only for its broad and diverse range of food but also because of its quintessential charm and laid-back feel.

Sit inside and you’ll be greeted with an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs work their magic as you soak up the beachy decor. Or, sit outside and catch some rays while you do some people watching. In terms of the menu, think gourmet-casual (is there such a thing? If not, I’m claiming it!) Whilst it’s not the cheapest fare, you definitely get what you pay for.

Three Blue Ducks serves breakfast, lunch and dinner so whatever you’re hankering for, chances are they’ve got it. At lunch time you can’t go past the steak sandwich with red pepper mayo, tomato, onion marmalade and rocket. The steak is tender and juicy with a great bite to it from the red pepper which is complemented nicely by the sweetness of the marmalade.

Or try the succulent lamb shoulder, pickled beetroot, goat milk with zucchini, frisee, pea and mint salad. Perfect for a chilly winter arvo.

Once you’re done there, grab a coffee to go and head down to Bronte Beach for an afternoon of relaxation as you absorb the beauty of the Eastern coastline.
